One Health Approach to AMU
The One Health concept recognizes that animal health, human health and environmental health are all inextricably linked. It also promotes a collaborative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment.
The One Health concept is recognized as particularly relevant to the topic of antimicrobial use (AMU) and resistance (AMR)—an issue that transcends and involves dynamics linking and crossing over each of these areas and jurisdictions.
One of the most important issues transcending the worlds of human, animal and environmental health is antimicrobial use and resistance. Major initiatives toward addressing antimicrobial resistance at a global level, and at a national level by many countries, including Canada, are using a One Health approach.
